Paradigm Shift

Paradigm shift - what it is and how it applies in our daily lives have been the focus of this week.

Starting with a working definition, the term paradigm shift was coined by Thomas Kuhn in 1962 in his book "The Structure of Scientific Revolution." He was of the view that "scientific advancement is not evolutionary, but rather is a 'series of peaceful interludes punctuated by intellectually violent revolutions', and in those revolutions 'one conceptual world view is replaced by another'.

Simplifying this definition, the authors at www.taketheleap.com explains: "Think of a Paradigm Shift as a change from one way of thinking to another. It's a revolution, a transformation, a sort of metamorphosis. It just does not happen, but rather it is driven by agents of change."

Why is an understanding of paradigm shift relevant to us?

You are an agent of change and as our world and lives change, it will be your choice to fully embrace your role. To choose otherwise, other change agents will effect the changes and you will be left to live with them.

Change begins with our thinking. A repeated thought, it is said, becomes a belief. Our beliefs literally dictate how we life our lives, the things we fear and those to which we are loyal.

So far this week, we have examined the gentle wind of change that is moving businesses, managers, supervisors, etc to adapt their business and management practices. As well, we have looked at the paradigm shift in how we relate intimately - in our marriages and long term relationships. Visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/daughtersofsheba and catch up on what you might have missed.

For the remainder of this week, we will cover the 'shifts' in parenting and race relations due to technological advancements and the emergence of an increasingly more compassionate world.

EVENT ALERT: We are in the process of putting together the First Gathering of DOS Foundation which is scheduled for December 2014 in Jamaica! Stay in touch as details will soon be released.

Be blessed and continue to be a blessing (a change agent) in your world. Namaste.
